I was in a very bad situation before. I've managed to get away, but for now I need to focus on real life things.

While most of my roleplaying journals will be undeleted (if possible), I will not be playing with them for quite a while. I need to be safe and secure in my new place, away from the people who hurt me.

Mary Dahl AKA Baby Doll
Intro Mary Dahl suffers from a rare form of hypopituitarism, which prevented her growth and ability to show her age (which, despite appearances, is in her mid-thirties. When she hit puberty, rather than be given hormone treatments that might actually help her, Mary was instead given a starring role in the sitcom Love That Baby, and thus gained the moniker Baby Doll. The show was successful for several years, but was eventually cancelled due to flagging ratings. After a disastrous attempt at a stage career, Mary went into seclusion of ten years.

Personality When Mary is "on" she will display a more overtly cheerful persona, but there's always a sly undercurrent to what she says, even if she's using her childish "Baby Doll" voice at the time. Like she's in on some joke you don't know about. Crack through that, and you may see her "off-stage" self... more tired, far more bitter, and more philosophic.

Appearance Mary is only 3' 4" tall (102 cm), with fair skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair that she often wears curled into ringlets -- per her "Love That Baby" show appearance. At first glance, she looks like a five-year-old child. If she's not putting on a higher, more childish voice, her natural voice will give her away as being in her late 30s. It's one of the few things about her that matured as it should have.

Interests Mary loves acting, and would be happiest doing dramatic roles on the stage. (She has a hard time escaping the typecasting of her past sitcom role and the assumptions that people form due to her child-like appearance.) She also enjoys singing and dancing -- being a 'triple-threat' may not be rare these days, but it was especially a draw when she was younger.

Family Mary has no living biological relatives, save perhaps some second cousins she's never met in person.

Kindness still felt like a strange thing to experience. Marion is used to stares and whispers, far more used to obnoxious people who think themselves clever for asking her to repeat lines from her old television show.

And yet...

The actors who played her "television siblings" -- Tammy Vance and Brian Daly -- had spoken up for Marion at the inquest to determine if she would be charged with any crimes following that recidivist misadventure with Waylon Jones. Tammy and Brian attested to her ongoing efforts to get treatment for her mental issues, her attempts at reconciliation and the difficulties that they witnessed Marion go through while trying to live her life as something other than a recluse. They didn't have to do that.

(Tod Baker and June Winthrop, their "television parents", had declined to speak -- either in condemnation or her defense. It was the best that Marion could have hoped for from the pair. Tod had never really liked her anyway, and June had soured on dealing with her long before her first criminal caper to kidnap them.)

Though the grand jury had decided against bringing charges against her, the wheels were set in motion to place Marion into a general conservatorship. She'd managed to avoid being assigned a legal guardian -- who would have been responsible for her medical decisions and other aspects of daily care -- so far, but most of her financial assets were handled by a trust. That's how she'd ended up with a ground-floor condominium in north New Jersey, with almost everything equipped with adaptive technology that made it easy for someone only three feet in height to use.

It was a kindness upon other kindnesses, something she didn't really deserve.

("You really have to stop thinking like that," Brian told her, when they'd met up for lunch and she'd admitted that the feelings of guilt still plagued her. "It's not about what we deserve or don't deserve, really. You were miserable, and you spread that misery around for a while. So do other people, and I can name a dozen who've done worse and gotten away with it. Just let yourself live, Mary. Be better now.")

While Mary is mentally in her 30s, she physically resembles a young child. I realize that this can be triggering for others, especially if she tries to pursue someone romantically (as she canonically did with Killer Croc).
